Zulfiqar Ali Magsi
Zulfiqar Ali Khan Magsi is the 20th current governor of Balochistan. The Nawab of Jhal Magsi was born on 14 February, 1954. The Magsi are a Baloch tribe of Balochistan and Sindh province of Pakistan. Most of the Magsi tribe is settled in Jhal Magsi District. He is serving Balochistan from 2008 and also remained two times chief minister in Benazir Bhutto governments. He has quite a good experience of running Balochistan two times as chief minister and a long serving Governor Balochistan.
Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi did his schooling from Aitcheson College Lahore. Later he earned his graduation degree from Punjab University. He first appeared in politics in 1977 winning the seat of his native constituency as an independent candidate. Later on he joined PPP .He served as home minister in 1990s.Politics is Nawab Magi’s family affair. The Magsi Royal family is involved in Politics even before partition.
Nawab Aziz Khan Magsi was known for his leadership working for his people’s rights. Its 1935 Quetta earthquake which took this brave men’s life else with his life the Baloch History could be different.
The political Magsi family continued the legacy of Nawab Aziz Khan Magsi. Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi along with his six brothers, wife and two sons are serving in prominent positions in Pakistan’s National Assembly along with provincial assemblies. Nawab of Jhal Magsi is married to Shama Parveen Magsi who is daughter of Prince Abdul Karim Khan and currently Balochistan IT minister. She was previously married to his parental uncle. His sons Saifullah Magsi and Aurangzaib Magsi are members of Pakistan Senate.
Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi owns 80% of Jhal Magsi land along other members of Magsi royal family. He is a well traveled person and visited various countries including USA, U.K, Germany, China, Greece, Turkey and UAE.
Quiet and easy going Zulfiqar Ali Magsi is known for his few but effective words on various national and international issues. His blunt statements upon Baloch missing persons, confessing losing his right to rule after Alamdar road Blasts and frequent criticism upon dismissed Raisani government made headlines. Nawab of Jhal Magsi is usually dressed gracefully according to occasion and hence validates the Nawabi tradition around the world.
