A well-known university of Pakistan located in Lahore is known as University of Central Punjab shortly termed as UCP, it is a private sector university. Its history dates back in 1985 when Punjab College of Commerce, the first college was established in Lahore under the auspices of the Islamic Commerce Educational Society. In 1988, The Punjab Law College was established in Lahore. The Punjab Group of Colleges launched numerous branches in the major cities of Punjab. It is ranked in 0-1500 universities by the world ranked of GPD. Then in 1991, Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA) was established and consequently in 1993, Punjab Institution of Computer Sciences (PICS) was launched at Lahore.
In a limited time of five years both educational departments fused as educational centers, training individuals as professional managers and computer scientists. Punjab Group of Colleges launched almost twelve campuses in the cities of the Punjab by 1996 and enrolled more than 18,000 students. In addition to that Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi is also one of their projects, which was granted degree awarding status by the Government of Sindh by Ordinance No.S.LEGIS:1(7)/98/- on 1st July 1998. Muhammad Ali Jinnah has campuses in Karachi and Islamabad and both are identified by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Further more UCP commenced its engineering department in 2003 which is recognized by HEC and attributed by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and it has about 500 students. Punjab Group of Colleges appealed for the establishment of university in the province to the government of the Punjab on 15th August 1996 and then NOC was issued to them by the government. The University of Central Punjab is the only university established in the private sector of Punjab which has been awarded the degree granting status by the Government. There after the Group has introduced 29 new campuses and has enrolled more than twenty five thousand students, this figure has now exceeded up to 30 campuses which is a big achievement itself.
On 10th October 1999, the University of Punjab commenced its operations. The university offer courses in following fields that includes Information Technology, Management Sciences, Commerce and Law. Its major constituent institutions includes the Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA), Punjab Institute of Computer Science (PICS), Punjab College of Commerce (PCC), Punjab Law College (PLC) and Punjab College of Information Technology (PCIT), all at Lahore, formed the core of the University at the time of establishment.
