Makli is considered to be the largest burial ground of the world about eight KM in diameters located at few distance from Thatta the capital of Sindh in the 17th century. This place Makli, is believed to be the burial place of more than 1.2 million famous and most popular Sufi saints. This place was listed in the world heritage list which witnessed its popularity in historical monuments. There are many tombs situated there in a piece of area and all these tombs have an excellent architect design. Mausoleums are divided further into major groups i.e. the Samma dynasty and Tarkhan having a period of 1325-1520 & 1461-1509 respectively. Tomb of Jam Nizamuddin is square in plane built beautifully. Other is the tomb of Essa Khan (who died in 1644) a two story building with glorious designs and carving which creates its own example especially the balcony.
The tomb of Mirza Essa khan is located in Thatta a place about four miles from river Indus. People use to say that it was a place where the magnificent fighter and ruler Alexander the great took rest with his army after a long march. This place was also recognized as the Eidorado of the East. Thatta had rich heritage of Muslim architecture, for which the best example is the tomb of Essa khan. This tomb is one of the largest and most prominent tombs of Pakistan. This tomb was designed beautifully with an excellent piece of hand-work. The style given to the balcony is surely a breath taking one. In the interior is the dome which was carved brilliantly. The tomb of Mirza Essa khan was built in his life time. After the tomb was mostly completed Mirza Essa Khan cut the hands of most skilled architecture to make sure that the same person shall not make another building resembling to this one.
