Special Communications Organization (SCO)
Special Communication Organization was established in 1976. SCO is operated by Pakistan Army. Signal Battalion of Pakistan Army is operating SCO in Azad Kashmir AJK and Gilgit.
Ministry of Information and technology maintained by Pakistan Army is operating Special communications organization which is a government organization. Special communications organization (SCO) is playing major role in proving telecommunication services in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. SCO was established in 1976 and it remained the single telecommunication network provider in its served areas for about 3 decades having extensive footprint of PSTN, GSM, CDMA and Internet Provision.

SCO is responsible for providing the telecommunication needs to a population of 4.5 million spread over 85.793 sq km consisting of the mountainous terrains of Azad Jummu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. In addition to the wired landline services SCO is also providing code division multiple access (CDMA) services. It is also providing cellular mobile service under the brand name of SCOM, the first ever GSM service of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Digital subscriber line (DSL) and Dialup Internet services are provided under the brand name of SNET.
SCO stands the largest telecom network services provider equally focusing on urban and rural areas development. SCO is providing telecom services to both public and private sector in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan region. It has a unique distinction of providing all brands of telecom services from voice to data under one platform. SCO services to the people include landline telephony (PSTN), Wireless local loop (WLL), cellular mobile (GSM), broadband internet(DSL), digital cross connect(DXX), long distance international(LDI), domestic private leased circuit(DPLC), and co-location facilities to telecom industry players operating in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan region.
