Another traditional dress and the one frequently worn by founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is Sherwani.
It is coat like with long sleeves and front-middle buttoned all the way down to knees. It is akin to ‘Achkan’ with only difference is of heavier fabric and lining used in it. People wear it over ‘Kurta’ (another traditional dress explained later) and Shalwar. Usually this dress is worn by famous aristocrats of subcontinent. Its varied forms comprise Achkan, Chipkan (Mughalia Style) and Pathani Sherwani. Achkan is light weight. Chipkan as implied by name is in fitting while Pathani Sherwani is an embroidered top. Silk, cotton, georgette and poly-silk are used to fabric Sherwani with hues of white, silver, grey, blue, brown and black. The embellishment involves pearled embroidery, silk threading, zari and dabka work.
