As a satellite clinic for Mayo Hospital in 1958, a separate mini hospital for government was established on Jail Road Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. In 1960, this clinic was named as Wahdat Hospital and then was renamed as Services Hospital. It became the teaching hospital in 1977 for the Allama Iqbal Medical Collage. It was promoted to teaching hospital for Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI). In 1999, it became the independent medical institute and established a management board to handle its affairs and to provide guidelines. In the year 2002, for the newly established Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) services hospital was declared as its teaching hospital.
At the time of Services Hospital’s inception, it was a hospital with 60 beds. Expansion of the hospital started when it was attached with the Allama Iqbal Medical College. Today this hospital is considered one of the reputed hospitals of Pakistan having 31 departments, 27 major operation theaters with 1196 beds. An outpatient department deals with the 700 patients on average per day.
A Medical Examination Department is working in Services Hospital and providing a unique facility of medical examination and declaration of fitness before the recruitment of an employee. Fitness certificate issued by the Services hospital is reliable that even foreign embassies accept its fitness certificates.
The Endocrine Unit (EU) and Diabetic management center (DMC) was started in 2002. EU and DMC are working with the objective to provide relieve to those patients who are suffering with diabetic and endocrine disorders. The department is equipped with the modern equipments and is having the latest and modern technology. Hospital has some Endocrinology Clinics focused on providing the proper care and following up the patients. Thyroid Clinic here works to manage and diagnose all the thyroid disorders. Obesity and Metabolic Clinic deals with the patients having different obesity disorder and this clinic is held on Friday. Pituitary and Growth Clinic evaluates the patients with pituitary glands problem and growth retardation etc and is held on weekly bases on Saturday. Adrenaline Clinic, Parathyroid and Bone Clinic are also functioning here.
Department of Pediatric Medicine is focused on providing the health facilities to the babies. Department of Orthopedic consists of 50 beds. Department of Diagnostic Radiology provides the diagnostic facilities of CT scan, ultrasound, Doppler studies, fluoroscopy and some routine radiological services are also being provided.
Just next to the hospital there is a nursing school where dedicated teaching staff teach them is established. This school is offering a three-year diploma in nursing and takes students every year. Pakistan Nursing Council is supervising this school.
