Malam Jabba

The Hill Station Malam Jabba is near Karakorum mountain range and 40 km away from Saidu harif in Sawat valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. From Islamabad this hill station is 314 km away and 51 km away from Airport of Saidu Sharif. In Pakistan, Malam Jabba is home to only ski resort. The area of Malam Jabba restrains two Buddhist stupas and almost six monasteries that are spread around the resort.  The existence of the testimonial at such a height designates that the area has been populated for over 2000 years.


Two hiking paths are positioned near the Malam Jabba resort. The first track passes in the course of the Ghorband valley and Shangla Top and from the resort its distance is of 18 Km while the second track passes by the Sabonev Valley and is about 17 km away from the resort.

Pakistani Tourism Development Corporation has owned the Malam Jabba Ski Resort. The resort has a ski slope of about 800 m with the highest point of the slope 2804 m above the sea level. Pakistan government and Austrian counterpart both collectively founded Malam Jabba Ski Resort. Malam Jabba is an ideal tourist place as it has equipped with modern facilities such as it has ice-skating rinks, skiing platforms, chair lifts, telephones and moreover snow clearing equipments are also available in the resort.


In 2008, the resort remained close for a year as it was set on fire and was destroyed after being closed. According to the residents a huge part of the resort was reduced to ashes and even the chairlift and a tower belonging to the meteorological department was also damaged by the militants. For a long time the government of Pakistan has lost its control over the administration and security of the valley and had dumped the resort, laying of its employees there and this all was due the was between government security forces and the militias of Taliban.  The government of Pakistan has since accepted a Taliban armistice in the Swat valley. However, started an offensive against the Taliban and retook the town in May 2009. Now the Ski hill at resort has been rebuilt and is fully completed. The ski track has been renovated and rehabilitation but renovation of the hotel is still pending.
