Majid Jahangir Khan was born in Ludhiana (Punjab), India. He played for Pakistan national team, Cambridge University, Glamorgan, Lahore, Rawalpindi and P.I.A. He was right handed bowler and batsman. He started his career as pace bowler but proves himself as all-rounder.
Majid Khan was an active team member of Pakistan cricket from 1964 to 1983. He started his First class cricket in 1961 and it ended in 1985. In the beginning his bouncer technique had been criticized and he also faced a back injury. At this situation he concentrated on batting and made him available as a part time off spinner. Initially, he played at middle order but very soon he was trusted to fill the opener slot. He played some great innings with the partnership of Sadiq Muhammad.
He was the most versatile batsman of Pakistan cricket team. He played 63 International tests and 23 ODIs. He scored 3,931 with 8 centuries in test matches. In ODIs he scored 786 and 27,444 runs in First class cricket. He took 27 wickets in test, 13 in ODI’s and 223 in First class. His memorable tour was in West indies where he played tremendously and scored 530.
Majid Khan was no doubt a star in cricket at his time. Besides his cricket career he always demonstrated himself as well educated, well behaved and a graceful person. He was known as “Walker” in cricket circle. Majid Khan belongs to the cricketer’s family. His father Muhammad Jahangir Khan, cousins Javed Barki and legendary Imran Khan were the main personalities which were associated to cricket. His son Bazid Khan played National Under-19 at the age of 15 also he was a team member of Pakistan in some international matches.
After retirement, he is connected with cricket and contributed a lot for Pakistan Cricket. in 1990’s Majid Khan became an administrational part of P.C.B. He was appointed as C.E.O of Pakistan Cricket Board in 1995. In 1995 he also played a roll of match referee from April to May 1995 for 4 test matches of West Indies vs Australia. In 2011, his name was also encircled for C.E.O in PCB.
