This food street started as a festival to celebrate the fifteen hundred years of the city Lahore. The chairperson of Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab, Mr. Kamran Lashari gave idea for Food Street. All traditional and cultural aspects were kept in mind while planning the Food Street to enhance the hospitality of rich Pakistani culture.
Food Street started as a festival was appreciated by the tourists from all over the world and from the food lover people of Lahore. It was a complete success. After being appreciated and receiving a good response, organizers decided to let this festival as a permanent feature of galwalmandi. Gawalmandi Food Street is now the most visited and popular food place for the people of Lahore and for the foreigner tourists. There are so many food points at one place. One can find any kind of food either its traditional, Chinese, fast food, snacks etc. it is also worth visiting because of it is surrounded by the centuries old buildings. These buildings are the pieces of traditional Kashmiri-Persian architecture. There are some other important places in its surroundings like Mayo Hospital, Landa Bazar, and Baasan wala Bazar.
In morning food street remains open for the traffic but at night, traffic is not allowed to pass the Food Street as huge number of visitors and food junkies start to come here to satisfy their taste buds. Visitors come to eat different kinds of food with their family and friends and stay there for the late night. One can find Food Street open at any time because it is open for 24 hours of a day. Some of the traditional specialties of here are Hareesa, Haleem, Tuka Tak, BBQ, Biryani, Seekh Kabab, Falooda, Rabari, and Lasi etc. Green tea and Pan are also available here. Food Street is really a full package of fun, chilling and food at one place for the people looking for it.
