A waiting Bride
Baraat in Pakistan is the most important function of a wedding without which the wedding is incomplete. Every province has their own rituals and celebrations of Baraat and Punjabis are at the top of celebrating this function. On this day two families are bounding with each other for the whole life as they are giving their precious gift means their “daughter” to spend her life with other family’s son.
Dresses of Bride and Groom
On this function the Bride and Groom got ready from the famous beauty saloons so that they look different on this special day. Brides put on their dresses and lots of jewelry which is very difficult for them to handle and they also apply mehndi on their hands and feet. Mostly the dress of the Bride is red and maroon Lehnga or Sharara but nowadays white and black colors are also inn. The dress of Groom is mostly golden or brown Sherwani with a turban and grooms just apply facial on their face and jel on their hair.
Celebrations on Barat
The cousins and friends of the Bride and Groom celebrate this function with great zeal and joy. They arrange dance performances and they also invite singers and band to make this function special. They also arrange some firework and use them at the time of “Rukhsati” when the Bride is going to her new house. The stage of Barat is decorated with lots of flowers and colorful tents with beautiful furniture where bride and groom and other guests sit together and enjoy the function.

There are many rituals on barat which are performed by both the families of bride and groom. The sisters of the Bride hide the shoe of Groom and give it back when they receive some money. Bride and Groom used to sit together and see themselves in the mirror so that they will spend their life by watching each other. The sisters and cousins of the bride hold the rope of the horse and did not leave it until they get some money. The most famous ritual is that the sisters of the bride put the milk in a decorative glass and give it to the groom to drink and then after drinking it the groom gives them money.
