On 7th February 2000, Bahria University which is federally licensed co-educational institute was established through a Presidential Ordinance. Its head office is in Islamabad and it is a multi-campus of higher education. It is shortly known as BU. In both Karachi and Islamabad it has introduced its branches. It is mostly acknowledged by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. In 1980’s and 1990’s Pakistan Navy established Bahria colleges and Bahria institutes of Management and Computer Sciences in Islamabad and Karachi and the Master and Bachelors degree programs were affiliated with Peshawar University. Engineering department of the University is recognized by the Pakistan Engineering Council while its medical department is recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and LLB department is identified by Pakistan Bar Council.
It also offers Bachelors and higher degree programs. BU generates professionals in different fields that include Telecommunication and Electronics, Software engineering, Social Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Law, Business Management and Professional Management. The augmentation and strategies of campus are managed by its Board of Governors consisting of senior naval officers and representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Chairman Board of Governors is the chief of the Naval Staff even the Pro-Chancellor of the institute. In Pakistan, the university has launched multiple campuses that include Bahria University Islamabad Campus, Bahria University Headquarter, Islamabad, Institute of Professional Psychology, Karachi, Bahria University Medical and Dental College, Karachi, Bahria University Lahore Campus, Bahria University Karachi Campus and National Center of Maritime Policy Research, Karachi.
The facilities provided by the institute to their students include Media, Music, Business Club, Art and Dramatics, Events, Library and Debates. SRC organizes the club which is further headed by a chief coordinator that nominates a deputy coordinator and a team leader. Bahria University monthly newsletter that is “Bugle” is also published by the SRC. Sports activities are also organized for the students that help them to participate in national and university level.
In the Islamabad campus of the university it has established a Gymnasium in collaboration with HEC. It is a multi-story building that consists of indoor games facilities such as it encompasses courts of badminton, basketball, volleyball, a fitness room and a cafeteria. In addition to that free facility is available for University officers, students and faculty at Margalla Greens Golf Club.
