In 2003, Air blue was established as a private airline and commenced its operation on 18th June 2004. Prime Minister of Pakistan inaugurated the airline. It introduced next-generation Air bus i.e. A320 and an Aircraft A321which offered journeys to many cities in Pakistan. It scheduled three flights daily from Karachi to Lahore and Karachi to Islamabad but after struggling for almost a year the airline was much liked by the public that now it offers flights to five international destinations and that is from Dubai airport, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Sharjah, Oman and UK.
Owing to its marvelous achievements it became much popular than Pakistan International Airline and two other private airlines. Within a year it took more than 400,000 passengers to their destinations and almost 90% of load factor was estimated in the same year. Due to its rapid improvement it expanded its route in more cities of the country which includes Nawabshah, Peshawar and Quetta. The first international flight from Karachi to UAE was launched by Air blue on 14th August 2009 and then almost immediately in 2007 in launched its inaugural flight to England and Manchester.
In June 2012, the code of Air blue was changed to PA from ED and the latest code belonged to Pan American World Airways. For the international routes, the airline acquired one Airbus A320 and two leased Airbus A340-300s and trying to avail a range of turboprop aircraft. In Pakistan e-ticketing was first introduced by Air blue which is a self check-in and wireless check-in kiosk facility. Sabre, which is a ticket distribution system, is also availed by the airline. To accommodate to air cargo markets of Pakistan, UAE and UK Air blue has launched e-Cargo service, this service will extend the base of cargo and permit certified agents to book freight directly online opening the inventory through Web. It is a private airline with its head office in Islamabad.
Air blue is recognized as the second leading airline with approximate 20% share of the domestic market. Jinnah International Airport, Karachi is the main hub of the airline. Mr. Tariq Chaudhry is the chairman of the airline and owned maximum stake of the company where as Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is the CEO. Blue Miles is the frequent flyer program of the airline.
